PSG Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
