Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside French warplanes in a combined operation against an underground arms cache in Syrian territory used by the IS group, as stated by the UK's MoD.
The facility, pinpointed through intelligence, was thought to be storing arms and explosives, the announcement noted, and was positioned in mountainous terrain just above Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our aircraft employed laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to strike a series of approach shafts leading to the site... early reports suggest the target was engaged successfully," the MoD said.
There was no sign of any civilian casualties in the operation on Saturday evening and every plane involved returned safely, the MoD added.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
The Islamic State group - alternatively referred to as the so-called Islamic State - established extremist governance over parts of Iraq and Syria prior to its 2019 collapse.
"This action demonstrates the UK's leading role, and determination to stand shoulder to shoulder with our partners, to stamp out any resurgence of Daesh and their violent and radical beliefs in the area," the British Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary remarked.
UK warplanes have carried out overwatch operations over Syria to "prevent any attempted comeback" of Islamic State subsequent to its military defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in 2019, the ministry said.
"I extend gratitude to all the members of British forces participating in this strike for their professionalism and their bravery," the Defence Secretary commented. "They were part of numerous British personnel on duty over Christmas and New Year. This action, to remove militants who endanger our safety, shows how British military are prepared to act, all year round, protecting the UK domestically and powerful internationally."
During December, the American forces executed what it termed a "large-scale strike" on Islamic State objectives in Syria, subsequent to an ambush claimed the lives of two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter in the Palmyra area.
The United Nations says Islamic State still boasts between 5,000 and 7,000 militants in Syria and Iraq.
